A6: The Haze 05:34
You may start your message now. "So, uh... Hey... I'm calling to let you know that I saw something in the woods. Do you know about all those stories we were told about the woods as kids? They always tried to deter us from going in there. I think I know why now... Um... I was walking past the woods when something caught the corner of my eye. I saw an animal in the woods just minding its own business, then something happened. This weird… haze came through. The animal tried to trot away but the haze reached it and it… changed it… Yeah, don’t go to the woods. Call me back when you get the chance. Bye."

about

Out of nowhere, we found something strange in our log. We found an entry we didn’t write. The log was written by someone by the name of Asriel. We couldn’t find a last name. It describes this very colorful dimension that they visited. Is this from another dimension hopping group? They even gave extra material of someone’s experiences of living in that dimension.

-Ray Vantair

We found this strange dimension full of these crazy colors everywhere. Our dimension indicator states this dimension is Dimension 41. I’ve coined this dimension the Technicolor Dimension. It reminds me of those old technicolor film reels I’d sometimes watch with Salvatore and our dad, Marcus. I hope their doing alright.

Anyway, let’s talk about geography. When we arrived in the dimension, we found ourselves in this forest. The trees were several different. You name a color, it was there. We drove around the woods and we spotted an animal that kind of looked like a wolf if its fur was a rainbow swirl. Then, shortly after we saw this haze coming through the woods. The wolf thing promptly booked, and we took that as a sign that it is time to leave.

When we managed to find an exit out of the woods, we ended up on these truly beautiful rolling hills. The hills were multiple colors of red, purple, blue, green, and brown. The sky was yellow, green and blue. After a while of driving over the hills we found a town.

Now, here’s the thing. I know that everything here is vibrant and has multiple colors, but the town was overbearing with its colors. Many building have multiple colors. It’s a little bit over-stimulating. There were people walking around. Their clothes were also multi-colored, but they were muted colors. A contrast to all of the neon-like colors everywhere. I also noticed that the town had some weird tech to it. It was all old tech, but it was being used like it was some futuristic tech. Imagine a cassette player, or a reel-to-reel machine, but it could do way more than it realistically should.

We actually interviewed someone who lives in the town. The name they gave to us was Dylan. Dylan told stores of their childhood, of how they would hang around a campfire and listen to people tell stories. He also told us to avoid the woods because of some haze that his friend warned him about one day.

“When we were kids, we were always told to never go to the woods. And if we ever did, we might never come back. It scared me as a kid. Some students at school would say they were just superstitions. And then a few of those kids went missing when they tried to prove that nothing was wrong about the woods. A couple of them came back, and they were very shaken up over what happened. They described this haze, and that they saw the other change form or something. No one really believed them. Well, a few did. I was just too scared to comprehend it.

Then adulthood came. I tried to forget the whole thing. One day I got a call from a childhood friend. I missed their call, but they left a message. They sounded a little panicked. They told me that they walked passed the woods and saw an animal get mutated by the haze.

About a month later, this group of explorers went missing in the woods. A search party went out to look for them. I was a part of it because my job is as a first responder. We found a person by the name of Terrell in an underground bunker. He was a nervous wreck. Of course, while in there the haze came around. The search party was forced to hide in the bunker with Terrell until the haze dissipated. When we knew it was safe, we brought him back to the town. We believe he was the only one of the explorers that escaped. My friend was worried that I had been taken by the haze because we were taking so long to get back to the town. Almost, but no, I’m still here.”

That’s all that Dylan told us. We told him that we saw this haze as well, but that we weren’t planning on going back there. We could tell that it wasn’t safe to begin with. We we’re already on our way out of the dimension by the time we met Dylan. After our conversation with Dylan, we said our goodbyes and headed out of the dimension.

-Asriel

This one was a very interesting album to make. I've been wanting to make an album for this dimension for a while now. I wanted the next Dimension Log album to be a more positive album sonically, compared to the previous three entries. Is there some darkness to this album? Yes, especially with its story. It's still has a more positive tone.

I've been recently listening to a lot of ambient music during late hours lately, especially this genre called Guitar Ambient. I found this album one day called Let Me Out of History by Our Friend the Sun. That album absolutely devastated me, causing me to openly sob with just one listen. It means a lot to me, and it a very beautiful album. That's the album that made me want to make this album the way that I did. This is a guitar ambient and post-rock album that I recorded on a stereo four speaker cassette recorder radio. It was recorded in two days. That radio is currently with Wilbur Bullara, for he's recording a cassette for a friend with it.
